The most boring part about make up – if this exists – is to clean up our make up brushes. If you don’t use them – you just apply your make up with your fingers – you should know that, like the brushes, your fingers need to be all cleaned to do that.
I am crazy about make up brushes and I use them for almost everything: to applying foundation, concealer, blush and so on. Those who make use of brushes like me need to know that our brushes need to be cleaned regularly. What means regularly? It means about once every second week. That’s right! Let’s make a checklist and understand why do we need to do that and, right after, see how to do that.
#1 To remove all residues that became accumulated during a long time;
#2 Those residues may cause some contaminations skin by bacterias;
#3 It may also cause alergies;
#4 Washing your make up brushes can makes it lasts longer.
#1 To hygienize the brushes’ bristles you will need a little bit of neutral shampoo;
#2 You will apply the shampoo with a little bit of water in each brush, making a massage in the bristles e letting it rest for 2 minutes;
#3 Then, wash each brush, removing the excess of water, squeezing the bristles;
#4 Dry all the bristles with paper towel;
#5 Using hairdryer to dry the bristles is not indicated, because it can damage the bristles. However, when it’s cold, we don’t have too much option. So try to do it with the dryer in a medium potency.
#1 You can do it in a bowl, like it was a “tub for your brushes” – that makes easier for you to wash them;
#2 Another option is to bring all the brushes with you in the shower, with a bowl. On winter they can “take a hot shower” with you and became cleaned;
#3 If you want to use the hairdryer, use conditioner when you’re washing them, after the shampoo. As we do in our hair! This will protect the bristles from the warm dry and reduce the possibility of damaging them.
#4 If you want to leave them to dry naturally, make sure to let them with the bristles upside down. Don’t let them in the opposite way because the humidity can damage the wood cable and unglue the bristles from it;
#5 There are some cleaning sprays for make up brushes for you to buy. To use it you just need to sprinkle a little bit in the bristles and dry it with a paper towel until you remove all the residues;
#6 But there are two disadvantages of the spray: 1) they can be a little expensive and 2) they can only be used on power residues. Cream ones don’t get removed with them – you need to wash it with shampoo.
